We, the undersigned, call on Cardiff Council to immediately abandon plans to develop new houses and an access road through Ely Rec and the surrounding fields, a vital and much-loved green space at the heart of our community.
The Rec is more than just a field. It’s where generations of Ely residents have grown up - playing, taking part in team sports, and making lifelong friendships. It is the heart and soul of Ely, a place that brings people together.
Plans to build on Ely Rec were successfully stopped in 2009. We must do so again - this time permanently. Cardiff Council has adopted the Fields in Trust initiative to safeguard green spaces for future generations. The Council’s commitment to preserving green spaces must formally include Ely Rec in this protection.
We urge the Council to protect Ely Rec, not pave over it. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.
